In West LA: Come for the BBQ, Stay for the Speeches
Thanks to West LA Lead Organizer Andrew Lachman for this recap of their opening held last evening:
It was standing room only as the West LA office opened in the Palms area of Los Angeles. More than 70 activists, leaders and new volunteers showed up to eat barbecue brisket sandwiches from Armadillo's BBQ and hear Controller candidate and Board of Equalization Member John Chiang speak.

Chiang talked about the task before us to mobilize voters and what is at stake if Republicans win this election. Firefighter Andy Doyle reminded the crowd of how Gov. Schwarzenegger tried to take away death benefits for firefighters and attack teachers. LA County Chair Eric Bauman and 42nd Assembly District Nominee Mike Feuer got the crowd excited by reminding them that Republicans work to protect special interests, but that Democrats stand for protecting working Californians. They both reiterated that we all need to volunteer and work together in order to help Democrats win in California.

I took that opportunity to remind the crowd that we have only one opportunity to turn our opinions into action, and that is during an election. Otherwise they are just meaningless words. The Party cannot get the job done without our grassroots volunteers.
Volunteers from Democratic clubs, civic groups, high schools and colleges have already signed up for every day of the month, but we have a lot of ground to cover and everyone needs to do their part to ensure that we win.
Also in attendance were Assemblyman Mark-Ridley Thomas, Santa Monica Councilman Kevin McKeown, Former LA City Controller Rick Tuttle, Former West Hollywood City Councilman Steve Martin, CDP Controller Eric Bradley and Region Director Bob Manley.

Friday Night in SG Valley: Local Activists, Speeches and a Movie
Thanks to Lara Shbeyr, Field Organizer for the San Gabriel Valley Region, for sending this wrap-up of their HQ opening event held over the weekend:
The grand opening of the San Gabriel Valley Democratic Victory 2006 headquarters was such a success! The office was packed with many local activists, firefighters, teachers, and volunteers. It was great to see so many people excited and ready to get this governor out of office.
The grand opening was three hours full of wonderful speeches by many elected officials and candidates. Some of the highlights included CDP Chairman Art Torres; John Chiang; Debra Bowen; Dr. Ed Hernandez; Congresswoman Hilda Solis; Mike Eng; and Andy Doyle from Firefighter’s Local 1014.

Chairman Torres fired up the crowd by rejecting our current governor’s egregious policies, and warned the attendees that if we do not get Mr. Schwarzenegger out of office, it will be a disastrous four years!
The event ended with a much needed movie about the Iraq war and how four major companies receive no-bid contracts from this current Republican administration. The film is called "Iraq for Sale - The War Profiteers." It’s a Robert Greenwald film from Brave New Films. Everyone realized that the corrupt practices revealed in this film would not have been possible if not for the likes of Mr. Schwarzenegger, who was always there to shill for Bush on the campaign trail in 2004.
We might have to slog through two more years of Bush, but we don't have to endure four more years with Arnie!!!!

If the "free soda, chips, and bottled water" doesn't entice someone to register as a Republican, what will?
Read this from the Press-Entreprise on more GOP voter reg switch-a-roos.

Major Bush Insider Hosts Schwarzenegger Tonight
The ties that bind Arnold to Bush are intertwined with lots and lots of money:
From Jeff Millman, Press Secretary, CA Democratic Victory 2006:
Tonight Alex Spanos, a 2004 Bush campaign 'Pioneer' and 2000 Bush campaign 'Ranger,' will host another fundraiser in Stockton with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Spanos has already donated $3,027,230.45 to Schwarzenegger's various campaign committees. (read the rest)

Special Interest Schwarzie
Never forget that Arnold -- and his decisions -- are driven by the money he gets from his special interest partners. Arnold's "broom" has lost its bristles!
From Roger Salazar, Communications Director, CDP Democratic Victory 2006:
In case you missed it, and many have, Governor Schwarzenegger's special interest fundraising was front and center in today's Los Angeles Times. In another part of the paper, columnist George Skelton lamented the reaction from both sides of the aisle to Governor Schwarzenegger's taped boorishness. He said, "the political pros need to pace themselves" because "something important could still happen actually worth reacting to."
Fair enough. Is the Governor's greedy dash for special interest cash worthy of reaction? It is when those donors have bills sitting on your desk. (read the rest)

McPherson's Sloppy Seconds
Poor Bruce McPherson. Never the bride, always the bridesmaid. He can't even come up with his own promises to break - he's got to recycle old ones from Arnold (who has an endless supply to be sure).
From Roger Salazar, Communications Director, CDP Democratic Victory 2006:
Secretary of State Bruce McPherson "vowed Thursday to sponsor legislation banning fundraising by lawmakers and the governor during key periods when decisions are made on pending legislation." As reported in today's Sacramento Bee, "McPherson's proposal will target fundraising by lawmakers during the last 30 days of their annual session and by the governor during the bill-signing period that begins once lawmakers adjourn for the year and lasts for up to a month."
Funny - this proposal sounds a lot like the same empty campaign promises made by candidate Schwarzenegger. (read the rest)

Nice one from Donnie Fowler on the Huffington Post about Arnold and his lack of "growth potential."
