Christian Voters Values Guide 2006
by Faithful Progressive
A team from the Christian Alliance for Progress has issued a non-partisan Christian Voters Values Guide 2006. It is my understanding that a PDF version will be on the site soon. Here's a link to this effort.
Christian Voters Values Guide 2006.
For the past twenty years, the Christian Right has distorted the meaning of “Christian values” in pursuit of a partisan political agenda. We at the Christian Alliance for Progress have a different vision, one that springs from our deeply held belief in the Gospels as a guide for moral and political behavior.
As faithful Christians, here are some questions to ask your elected officials as you vote in the 2006 elections.
Caring For "The Least of These" - Pursuing Economic JusticeThe Jesus of the Gospels calls us to good stewardship, justice, and care for "the least of these." We call on our nation's leaders to seek economic justice in the management of the world's wealth and to enhance efforts to reduce poverty.
Questions: Did your elected official support an increase in the Minimum Wage? Did they oppose estate tax cuts for the super-wealthy and cuts to human services programs?
Forsaking Brute Power - Seeking Peace, Not War
Jesus knew power and he knew it could be used for justice or for conquest. Over and over, Jesus blessed his followers with peace and urged them to peace. Following his example, we call for restraint - not aggression - in the exercise of our nation's power.
Questions: Does your representative want to develop a strategy to withdraw US troops from Iraq and to provide for a peaceful transition there? Has your representative spoken out against torture and in support of Middle East peace and international law?
Caring for the Earth - Responsible Environmental Stewardship for Today
Jesus urged his followers to be good stewards and to act for good in the world here and now. We respond by caring for God's created world today, holding our environment in trust for our children.
Questions: Does your elected official support the Kyoto Accord, and an increase in fuel efficiency standards? Did your representative support the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative?
Rejecting Bigotry, Embracing Dignity - Equality for All
Jesus taught equality, justice and responsibility. We accept Jesus' call to love one another and to welcome all God's children at the table.
Questions: Did your representative support the renewal of the Civil Rights Act? Did they oppose anti-gay civil union and anti-gay marriage efforts? Have they taken a stand against criminalizing immigration policy?
Honoring the Sanctity of Childbearing Decisions
Effective Prevention vs. Criminalizing AbortionJesus taught compassion, responsibility, and equality. Following his call, we support responsible, compassionate programs that are genuinely effective in helping prevent unintended pregnancy. We affirm that each woman's body belongs to herself. No woman should be forced either to bear a child or to terminate a pregnancy.
Questions: Does your representative support science-based sexual health education? Did your representative support immediate access to Emergency Contraception (EC) and requiring that EC be made available to rape victims? Does your representative oppose making abortion a criminal offense?
Extending Healing to All - Health Care for All Americans
Jesus' insisted on justice, equality, and care for "the least of these." Acting on his teachings, we claim every American must have access to quality health care.
Questions: Did your representative support health care for all Americans? Does your representative support healing embryonic stem cell research?

Pursuing Economic Justice - as long as this doesn't mean creating huge, wasteful beaurucratic hand-out programs that expect nothing from the recipients. The goal must be a hand up, not creating wards of the state.
Caring for the Earth - as long as we (1) use science, not politics, to determine what will actually make the most difference, and (2) consider the economics of proposed changes - I'm not saying let economics determine the outcome, but to ignore economics is to not really be interested in practical solutions.
Rejecting Bigotry, Embracing Dignity - it is too bad that you group the plight of immigrants with homosexuality. Like it or not, homosexuality is contentious, and morally questionable to many. I still think the most the government should be expected to do is remain neutral to gays, rather than the extremes of criminalization (sodomy laws) or sanction (redefining marriage).
onoring the Sanctity of Childbearing Decisions - Of course, these rights are limited by the Right to Life of the child - something which liberals and progressives are slow to recognize. We must have rational debate about WHEN during gestation the child begins to have rights as a person. Leaving it up to the woman or arguing "it's just opinion" are copouts because they fail to recognize the rights of children - they are not children merely when they are born, and to deny that is to be complicit with infanticide.
Health Care for All Americans - again, the only plan that will work is one that requires and rewards personal responsibililty. As many of the faith based health plans are discovering, mercy AND responsibility make a plan work, not one or the other.

Personal responsibility, I have learned, translates clearly and quickly to "Blame the innocent and reward the guilty". Most people without health care are there because of corporate greed, not because of their own actions.
Personal responsibility- think about this. You are as responsible for the effects of your actions upon others as you are for their effects upon yourself. Indeed, you are more responsible, because you cause an innocent harm and they may not have the means to recover on their own (where most poor people get that way).
I've learned that those who lecture "personal responsibility" are just looking to blame the victim.

HI Seeker
A couple of comments on your comments.
1. Economic Justice: you point out the risk of "huge, wasteful beaurucratic hand-out programs that expect nothing from the recipients. The goal must be a hand up, not creating wards of the state."
I agree that wasteful programs out to be avoided. But the reason for bureacracy is to prevent hand-outs to the supposedly undeserving. Less bureacracy means less oversight. That's OK with me actually, I'd rather make it easier for the deserving poor to get help than make it more difficult for the undeserving to be denied.
Also, I'd like to point out that none of us make it on our own, all of us are dependent on the system for survival. This applies to welfare cases and CEOs. The most radical communist economic principle is "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need". Even that principle demands that people contribute what they can to the common good. But there is no reason for us to simply take it for granted that what the unregulated free market produces is what ought to be. It's OK for us to "interfere" with the free market via taxes and labor laws when it is needed.
2. Environment: Help the environment, you say, but use science not politics. I agree and wish the Bush administration would follow your advice instead of having lobbyists rewrite scientific reports.
3. Gay oppression and other discriminations: I agree with you that there is much less agreement about discrimination against gays than against discrimination against some other minorities. On the other hand, bigotry is un-Christian and Christians--EVEN THOSE WHO BELIEVE HOMSEXUALITY TO BE A SIN--ought to stand against discrimination and hatred toward gays. I'm not for gay marriage, mostly because I think it is politically damaging (that matters). But civil unions? I think most people are comfortable with those and the Christian community ought to support them.
4. Abortion; A terribly complex issue and we need to recognize that honest and decent people disagree on it.
5. Health care for all: The fact is, the private market is unsuited for health care delivery. There are perverse incentives when you have a privatized health insurance system. We have an example of a successfull public health care system; The VA. my dad gets his care from them and they are incredibly efficient and incredibly caring. Wd don't need some kind of social engineering, all we need to do is copy the system we already know works.

Seeker:
I wonder why Jesus is missing in your opinions?
Anyway, since you're so concerned about wasteful beaurocratic hand-out programs I'm certain you're actively campaigning against the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.
Yep, and that means it's time for the wasteful beaurocracy currently in Iraq to come home as well.

Yes, many is the time I've heard the conservative cries of "Personal Responsibility" and "Government Waste". Interesting how that never to them seems to include the hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars we hand out (that's taxpayer dollars, boys and girls) to the wealthy and to corporations in the form of tax-breaks and subsidies every single blessed year. Pardon me ever so much, but I do believe I'd rather see people below the poverty level getting government handouts than corporations who are quite capable of taking care of themselves, and who grab these government "care-packages" with one hand, and with the other shut down factories in this country so they can relocate them to Third World nations where they can pay slave-wages to the native workers. And the (over)46 million Americans who cannot afford health insurance are doing without because they cannot afford the rediculous prices now demanded by insurers (although the state governments are FORCING them to pay car insurance every month, or they are threatened with not being allowed to drive their automobiles, which most of these 46 million need to be able to do to get to work and pay their bills--so they are forced to cough up what they cannot afford for car insurance, while they must then do without ANY health coverage), and in the richest nation on earth the fact that we cannot provide each and every American with guaranteed health-coverage is not only a testament to corporate greed and conservative apathy toward the poor, it is an abomination in the sight of God. Anyone who rails against "welfare cheats", and is referring solely to those below the poverty level, and who isn't screaming at least equally loud about Corporate Welfare and tax-breaks for the rich needs to be taken out and horse-whipped. And that would, of course, include the vast majority of conservatives.
As for considering "economics" when you're talking about cleaning up our environment and protecting various animal species from becoming extinct due to human greed and idiocy... insuring a world where future generations can breathe clean air and drink clean water... ANYONE who talks about figuring "economics" into this most vital of issues quite frankly should be taken out and horse-whipped. Sorry, but I don't have any patience for the "greed factor" when it comes to something this serious.
As for the gay rights issue I do agree actually that the whole gay marriage thing has been given FAR too much attention on BOTH sides. When over 50 million Americans are living without basic necessities, people around the world (and particularly on the African continent) are going without adequate food, clothing, housing, and medications, I think that issues like gay marriage, flag burning, and creationism in the schools needs to be put on a backburner. HOWEVER, regardless of one's feelings about homosexuality, the Americans who do not "approve" of gay people DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT THE FREEDOMS OF OTHER AMERICANS BASED ON PERSONAL PREJUDICES. I don't "approve" of bibliolators, flag-worshipors, nationalists, ulra-conservatives, and plutocrats....should I then have the right to decide whether or not these people who I find highly objectionable should be able to marry or not? Should I have the right to prevent them from having television shows or parading their disgusting (and mean DISGUSTING) "lifestyle" in my face? Well????? Once again, for those who advocate limiting the rights of fellow Americans based on personal prejudices....hmmmmmm....let me think....hold on a sec................HORSE-WHIPPING!!!!!!!!
And finally on the issue of abortion, although I find it a sad and gut-wrenching business, in the end it is the woman who must make this most personal decision about her own body. There are many and varied reasons why some women simply cannot go through with a pregnancy, and to imply that it is usually "out of convenience" is not only a nasty, mean-spirited burden to place on our sisters who must make this horrible decision, it is a willfull embracing of narrow-mindedness. You can NEVER place yourself in the exact position of any woman who decides she must terminate a pregnancy, and until you can do so, you must NEVER claim to understand her motivations or belittle the necessity she feels to go through with this sad procedure. I think we've had enough of back-alley butchers in years past, and abortion must remain legal and a choice that is made by each individual woman. I can GUARANTEE you if men could become pregnant this debate wouldn't even be going on. For anyone who wants to stand outside of an abortion clinic and scream nasty remarks at the women and doctors going in....can you guess? YEP! It be horse-whippin' time!
Well, admittedly I'm an advoate for horse-whipping. There it is, I must 'fess up to it. If I had my way, every single ultra-conservative (and most other kinds of conservatives as well) would end up with %&$ so sore they wouldn't be able to sit down for a month. Their hypocricy, their love of plutocracy, their support of war and prejudice, and their general apathy toward the poor has made me a major horse-whoopin' advocate.....and even if it's only a dream....well, a monk can dream can't he?
Peace and Blessings.

Damien,
That's bold talk for a dress-wearing sissy.
Tell you what, if you will e-mail me, we will set a place and a time to meet, and you can have a go at horse-whipping me.
Posted by: Gary at October 11, 2006 01:08 PM
Gary,
Boy, you just ain't very bright, are you? In the first place, it's a habit, not a dress. The Romans also wore "dresses", and I don't think you would have wanted to address a Roman centurian as a "sissy". And guess who else wore a "dress", according to the traditional garments of His day? HINT: His initials were JC.
Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth preached peace, and warned that those who lived by the sword would die by it, BUT there were limits, even for Him. His human side totally lost it when faced with the nasty hypocricy of the Pharisees and Saducees, who He called (in honour of His cousin John) a "generation of vipers". They paraded their piety around, mouthing praise to God, while all the time either taking advantage of or ignoring the poor and the sick, hoarding wealth, and obsessing over customs and social prejudices which had NOTHING to do with God. They encouraged a totally exclusive version of their religion which Jesus totally rejected (sound familiar? It should, because The Pharisees of our modern day now call themselves "conservatives" and advocate wealth-hoarding, plutocracy, nationalism, usury, war, prejudice, and the EXACT same type of exlusive approach to God). This "sissy" in a dress warned that many claiming to worship Him would meet Him on the other side after death, and upon seeing Him would yell out, "Lord, Lord!", and He said He would turn to them and say "I NEVER knew you", because they had served false piety and social injustices rather than following HIS commandments.
One other thing you might want to consider too, when so rudely insulting a monk or nun. Like The Master, we tend to embrace peace, but we are human (as He was), and there are those of us who will, if the need calls for it, do some serious *$$ kicking. There were more than a few monks who fought in The Crusades, if you care to check out a history book (and have someone sound out the big words for you). I workout six times a week, and am in well above-average physical condition. Were we to have a "tussle" I would probably put you in the hospital. As Dr. David Banner said once, "Don't make me angry...you wouldn't like me when I'm angry". Plus, my mother was Irish. In any event you have missed the point of my post (as usual). What I was trying to get across is that violence is The Way of the conservatives, and those who embrace violence may feel its effects themselves one day. We have seen the result of pumped-up machoism gone wild, and how it has made terrorism a hundred times worse than it was before, its posturing and arrogance inflaming anti-American sentiment around the world like a wildfire out of control. I am a social-activist, and I prefer the peaceful approach at all times....and yet I cannot help but fantasize that all of the "gung-ho" "let's show the world how scary we are" conservatives might one day have their backsides burned like the wicked, greedy, grasping, and intolerant little brats they are.
As for your invitation, I feel you would be sorely outmatched, and I do not like to take advantage of the mentally impaired in any case. I've no doubt fate (and Almighty God) will sort you out in due time.
Peace and Blessings.

I see the "Gary" Troll has returned with his mean-spirited name-calling and gay-obsessing.
Why bother with the truth when you can hide behind childish Ad Hominem fallacies?

Brother Damien,
And modest as well! Say, don't you guys do vows of celibacy or whatever...I eschewed that whole celibacy/chastity thing awhile back and while I figure that your place in heaven will probably be higher than mine, mine will probably be more fun.:-p
Seriously though, I have been studying and commenting on the Voters Guide. Overall, I'm in complete agreement with the guidelines. As per the "Partial Progessives" post I very definitely a Communitarian Republican. My national voting patterns tend to be more centrist than anything. For example, down here in Florida, I'm a member of an unofficial group known as "Republicans for Bill Nelson". I've always voted for Bill Nelson even though he is a Democrat because I don't blindly vote along party lines. To give you and idea of my voting patterns, I was once asked in an American History class what my ideal Presidential ticket would be without including the Founding Fathers. My reply was "Harry Truman and Theodore Roosevelt". You do the math.
There are a lot of us out here who are looking to form alliances. I joined up with CAP because I believe in what it stands for even if I am a Conservative Republican.
I would like to leave you with a quote from that great political philosopher Marx, Groucho not Karl.
"I'd horsewhip you if I had a horse."

Three of the greatest gifts that God has given us are a free will, Teyose, and the ability to laugh at ourselves.
IMO, being Christlike also means having a sense of humor. After all, God has one!!!

Damien,
You have a "habit" of wearing dresses.
Thanks for declining my offer. I'm sure I wouldn't stand a chance against an angry, five foot eight nun, whose mother was Irish.

Frank- did you hear about the person who went to a store (restaurant?) wearing only a shirt and shoes???
It actually happened- I remember reading a news article about it!
Now... if it was a Coosa Longshirt and moccasins- nobody could tell the difference!!!
Another interesting point- in Fiji, men wear skirts and that is the norm. Considering the climate, it makes sense!

And, Gary... you're starting to sound a little like that "ice wolf" kid that got kicked off here a few months ago.
You usually come across as more mature.

I have one comment on the abortion issue. I am a woman, and I know for a fact that I do not own my body. God created me and He "owns" me. When you say "it's your body" I take it to mean that God gave us free will and that is where "sad" and heartwrenching" decisions come about- We are put in a position by ourselves or others to choose whether or not something is going to work out for us. God made very simple rules for us. One of those is "Thou shall not kill." I don't believe God intended for any one of us to decide whether or not a human being should intentionally die. Isn't that taking on the role of God? I believe if we carried infants outside our wound, this might not even be an issue. We tend to be more comfortable if we don't see it. Cover your eyes and it might go away. I am sorry folks, but abortion is a modern day holocaust.

Lets vote for a Republican and deny food to the poor medicine to the sick and kill our youth off in a war
The truth about abortion
Why abortion should be legal only the woman knows why she is pregnant and she should not have to confess her inter most secrets to any one but God.
On abortion the woman answer should always when man and women have sex and the man walks away and dose not stay a round to see if the women are pregnant and if the woman is pregnant stay and around and support her during pregnancy and help raise the child is this not aborting a child when A man aborts it is all right but if a women aborts the Repugent party wants to call it murder. What is fair about this remember if it takes two too tango it takes two to abort. That means no man has a right to say if a woman can have an abortion when he has all ready committed a few himself. Look at all the unwed mothers, now how many spineless men love to abort It’s a women thing only men can already abort freely.
All men that speak religiously on wanting to out law abortion are not and can not be Christian and have not read all the Bibles. Out of 18 different Bibles not one could be intrepid to read that that a man should be put to death over causing a miscarriage; I can not even say it left a gray area, two made very clear that the man had to be fined for the loss of the fetus and pay eye for eye tooth for a tooth for any harm that came to the women.
Exodus 21 (The Message) 22-25 "When there's a fight and in the fight a pregnant woman is hit so that she miscarries but is not otherwise hurt, the one responsible has to pay whatever the husband demands in compensation. But if there is further damage, then you must give life for life—eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise –
Exodus 21 (Contemporary English Version) 22: Suppose a pregnant woman suffers a miscarriage [d] as the result of an injury caused by someone who is fighting. If she isn't badly hurt, the one who injured her must pay whatever fine her husband demands and the judges approve. 23But if she is seriously injured, the payment will be life for life, 24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25burn for burn, cut for cut, and bruise for bruise. 26If you hit one of your slaves and cause the loss of an eye, the slave must be set free. 27The same law applies if you knock out a slave's tooth--the slave goes free.
The following should make it clear when life begins so it certainly can not be called murder.
Genesis 2:7 TNIV • Read this chapter
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Psalm 33:6
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Job 33:4 TNIV • Read this chapter
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Ezekiel 37:10 TNIV • Read this chapter
So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
Revelation 11:11 TNIV • Read this chapter
But after the three and a half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them.
The Republican party and their always wanting to dictate what ever thing means, shows only that they want to be Dictators. I know not one Democrat that want to force any one to have an abortion I think that they feel the same as me that a woman should not have to have a baby that she or no one else wants an she should not have to reveal her sex life any one so that they may judge her for God and Jesus Christ are her judges; and now for all you self appointed judges I give the following quote
Matthew 7
Dont Condemn Others
1"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. 2For others will treat you as you treat them.[a] Whatever measure you use in judging others, it will be used to measure how you are judged. 3And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye[b] when you have a log in your own? 4How can you think of saying, `Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye.

What do you call "social justice" Many use that phrase to advocate "sameness" But Jesus never used that phrase.
The Bible does speak of giving to the poor, etc. and Jesus specifically spoke to the issue. But we should be careful to not read into Jesus' words what he did not say. Jesus was not a "socialist"
First, the bible speaks to various groups of people. ie it speaks to believers, unbelievers, the jewish nation and other nations and the church.
Jesus' words concerning the giving to the poor and seeing to the "least of us" were commandments to the individual first and the church corporately. The bible and Jesus specifically never authorized civil government to get into this business.
His name is Jesus not Robin Hood. He never authorized either civil government or the church to forcefully take from one and give it to another just because that person can demonstrate a need, which is all government can do.
When Jesus spoke to the rich young ruler, he asked him to sell all he had and give it to the poor, but this was not a commandment directed at every individual as Jesus can read the hearts of people and deals with each heart individually. Jesus' response to this rich man was in answer to the man's question "What must I do to be saved." Because Jesus wants to posses our hearts, he simply exposed to this young man what actually possessed his heart and apparently there was not any room left for Jesus.
But not all rich men are possessed by their wealth. Only God can judge that.
Jesus' words should never be construed to advocate plugging underachievers into achievers likes ticks. Look, customarily taxes are taken out before a person takes money home to support his own. Because of this, people, even struggling families are forced to feed a poor child before they get to feed their own child. They have to provide healthcare to the poor, before they can provide for their own health, etc. etc.
Here's a couple of scriptures you rarely hear quoted. Jesus said the poor you will have with you always and you can give to them whenever you want. And, from the epistles: If a man will not work, neither let him eat.
Concerning the earth, please see my comments under the "Gospel of Green" on this site.
Homosexuals driving for same sex marriage is a direct attack on the church and christians, whom many homosexuals feel are their enemy because of the bible verses against homosexuality. There are many ways the things they seek could be provided and they are actually asking for more privileges than most married hetero's have. ie. on TV one time a homosexual man was telling how he was not allowed to be in the room with his lover in the hospital. Now anyone can visit during appropriate hours. A married person does not have the privilege of being in the room during diagnosis and treatment or after visiting hours without special permission. But all of this could be handled by a power of attorney or a written permission slip from the affected partner. As a spouse I do not have carte blanche into my spouse's health records, financial records, etc.
The Church is right to resist same sex marriage as the scripture says marriage is a picture of the covenant union of Christ and the Church. Same sex marriage does not accurately portray this picture. Two men together in a marriage covenant deny the church and God's covenant with the weaker vessel. Two woman together deny God, Christ and the covenant between the stronger and the weaker (God and man)
But, in resisting same sex union, the church needs to be loving as we are commanded to be loving to all individuals, Perceived sinners included. The bible points out we are all "sinners" (out of agreement with God) in one way or another so the church should not be condescending or self righteous. But loving does not mean acquiescence.
To the homosexual that believes the bible condones homosexuality because Jesus never said anything about it please realize Jesus did not specifically address these issues, rape, pediafility, slavery, etc. but we know he does not condone these things. It is good to remember everything Jesus said was not written down and he came to the Jewish people who already had much knowledge of what God condoned or not through the Torah. Let's remember, Jesus did personally appear to Paul and revealed to him much about himself and the new covenant and the epistles do address the issue of homosexuality.
Posted by: PatrioKat at November 6, 2006 11:12 PM
PatrioKat,
Jesus doesn't just tell the young rich man to sell all his worldly possessions and give the money to the poor if he wishes to follow him....Jesus doesn't just say "it is easier for a camel to travel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Heaven", but to really drive the point home, Jesus also says at one point, "Woe to the rich, for they have their reward". Was Jesus a socialist? Of course not, because Jesus was beyond political ideologies, but we do know that He didn't make our obligation to The Least of These something that was just a "suggestion", as so many ultra-conservatives/pseudo-christians try to pretend. Jesus said, quite plainly, that we would be JUDGED by Him and separared out according to how we approached this issue. Jesus discouraged accumulation of earthly wealth, and said that one must store up one's treasures in Heaven, NOT on Earth. Try to defend wealth hoarding/plutocracy all you like, but that is something that Jesus actually DID address, unlike homosexuality, which in four Gospels we find nothing about. What we do know is that Jesus said that for those who would drive His children away from Him (as the "Religious Right" has actively done with homosexuals, turning huge numbers of gay and lesbian people away from Christianity with their nasty, mean-spirited, and extremely unenlightened rhetoric), it would be better for them if they had a millstone tied around their necks and they were thrown into the sea (rather than face His wrath). As for rape and slavery, in fact Jesus DOES address these issues by telling His followers that they must not seek to be superior to one another, but must seek equality. In so doing, he covers the issue of slavery... for how can there be equality in a master/slave relationship? And He covers rape by addressing the issue of violence...he that takes up the sword will die by it. Rape is an act of extreme violence, and extreme violence is something Jesus rejected. In fact the only time we know of that Jesus even lost His temper was when he caught the moneylenders practicing usury in The Temple.
Ultimately you can choose to continue to try and justify greed and prejudice all you want OR you can do what Jesus actually SAID to do in The Gospels, and that is to concentrate on spreading The Good News, taking care of The Least of These, and turning your back on greed and intolerance. As Jesus said, we must "go beyond the righeousness of the Pharisees", who paraded their piety on street corners while taking advantage of widows and orphans on the other (sound familiar? Check out all the conservative "christians" who get all worked up over gay marriage, evolution and flag-burning, but show NO interest whatsoever in the 50 million people in this country who can't afford basic necessities, or the 46 million going without health coverage, or the huge tax breaks and subsidies handed out yearly to the rich). Jesus DID establish a New Covenant, and it is all there in The Gospels. As St. Paul said, if the Old Covenant had been without flaw there would have been no need of a new one.
Peace and Blessings.

The election is heating up. Christians of USA speak out! www.christianvoters.us

Dear friends,
Obama is capturing millions of our youth into his cult like unification election efforts.
Many of our christian youth are likewise decieved by Obama's bewitching grasp into their minds and hearts. Our youth seem to be blinded by the fact that Obama's pro-abortion and gay marriage agenda will destroy America as we know it.
The excitement of the crowds blind and therefore seem to excuse all of Obamas socialistic anti-christian views.
Is anything more dangerous upon America's horizon than having the youth vote become the key factor which ellects a man who is seeks to undermine our entire constitutional Republic?
Are we fully aware that the very values and freedoms which allow christians to have rights are on the line? Obama can and will place left leaning anti christian judges on America's courts just as he has promised.
Our Christian leaders are acting like helpless by-standers simply watching this all happen under their noses? Are we going to leave our fate up to political chance by going about our daily agenda simply hoping this will all go away? This is how liberty dies with thunderous applause!
There are other dangerous distractions dividing christian youth and drawing them away from unifying their voting power during a critical election year.
Congregations are reporting devisions over 911 conspiracies and other popular contentions which frequently turn into disputes regarding the Iraq war and 911 within the house of prayer. I am writing to you because I have long foreseen such negative trends growing within many believers becoming highly divisive and very dangerous.
There have been several honest investigations recently which have exposed 911 conspiracies as dangerous and miss-leading propaganda harmful to our country. Believability in such fabrications has a bewitching affect upon the minds of many christians as well as upon the minds of non christians. Such propaganda fuels a growing lack of trust for our American institutions and can turn believers against their own country or against their own ministers who refuse to support the conspiratorial spin. The negative affects I am warning about have much to do with the fact that many christians are currently being distracted away from an extremely important presidential election where leftists are contending to gain positions of power which could potentually turn our nation into an anti christian socialistic state.
Modern Leftists despise christians and are currently waging a political and media war against us. These people work tirelessly to silence the voices of faith in order to undermine christian influence and set up their left leaning Babylon. As christians are decieved into contending against Bush, Iraq, and confusion over 911 conspiracies they unknowingly assist true enemies by helping them ride easily into power without resistance. I was inspired with new understanding and seek to reveal an important message recorded in the Bible concerning 911 and the Iraq war. The Iraq war will be a major issue this year because Obama promises to pull the troops out of Iraq against the advice of our military commanders on the ground and even if the terrorists declare victory over America as the whole world witnesses America cut and run. Iraq being succussful turns out to be a prophecy in the Bible.
Before you are tempted to write me off as another false teacher warned about in scripture, please check out my publication now marketed by a large christian organization called Salem. Please take a few minutes and witness the online video demonstrating a biblical message about 911 and the Iraq war in prophecy. I want you to see 911 evidence recorded in your Bible.
I want you to witness 911 scriptures which connect modern Iraq with "eagle's wings" (America's symbol of freedom)
I am holding myself personally accountable if my readers fail to discover exactly what I am promising them concerning Iraq or 911.
You have both my e-mail and my phone number to do just that!
