Bush Proposing to Gut Veterans’ Health Care

More evidence of the harsh impacts that President Bush’s budget will have on people across the nation:

“At least tens of thousands of veterans with non-critical medical issues could suffer delayed or even denied care in coming years to enable President Bush to meet his promise of cutting the deficit in half - if the White House is serious about its proposed budget. … ‘Either the administration is proposing gutting VA health care over the next five years or it is not serious about its own budget,’ said Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas, top Democrat on the panel overseeing the VA's budget.”

Bikers Protecting Families of Fallen Members of our Military at Funerals

Sad that this is necessary:
“Wearing vests covered in military patches, a band of motorcyclists rolls around the country from one soldier's funeral to another, cheering respectfully to overshadow jeers from church protesters. They call themselves the Patriot Guard Riders, and they are more than 5,000 strong, forming to counter anti-gay protests held by the Rev. Fred Phelps at military funerals.”

Port Security: What is the Real Motivation Behind the Bush Administration’s Actions?

Great post from David Sirota on his blog about the real motivations behind the Bush administration’s actions in allowing the United Arab Emirates company to take over port management in six major American ports:

“Politicians and the media are loudly decrying the Bush administration's proposal to turn over port security to a firm owned by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) - a country with ties to terrorists. They are talking tough about national security - but almost no one is talking about what may have fueled the administration's decision to push forward with this deal: the desire to move forward Big Money's ‘free’ trade agenda.”

Diebold Voting Machines Re-certified in California

On Friday, California’s Secretary of State re-certified Diebold machines for use in California elections. We must rededicate ourselves to insist on paper trials for electronic voting and encourage permanent absentee voting.

VA Nurse Investigated for "Sedition" for Criticizing Bush

Thanks to Bob Handy for sending me this article on Laura Berg, who is being investigated for writing a letter to the editor of her local newspaper.

It's outrageous what this administration has fostered in people - it is Gulag politics.

A Pattern of Ignoring Laws from the Republicans?

From one who should know…

“Arnold Schwarzenegger was riding his Harley-Davidson with his son in a sidecar last month when he collided with an SUV. The governor required 15 stitches in his upper lip. After the accident, it emerged that Schwarzenegger has been riding his motorcycles for 20 years without the required motorcycle license. He 'never,' he said, 'thought about it.' For various reasons -- among them the fact that no cop saw the accident -- the governor wasn't ticketed. Dick Cheney went gunning for quail without the Texas stamp required to hunt upland game birds....”
