My Fellow Clevelander...
My Fellow Clevelander,
We are at a critical point in our city's history. To move Cleveland forward, we need a leader with vision, passion and personal commitment. We need to make Cleveland the 21st Century's "City That Works." It will take effective decisions and considerable energy to provide that leadership. That is why I am running for Mayor.
As a Cleveland Municipal Judge for the last 10 years, I have seen before me obstacles that have held Cleveland back, like poverty, housing abandonment and hopelessness. Yet I have also seen the promise of Cleveland's future - a future that Cleveland's leadership does not reflect, a future where we can overcome barriers and create opportunity. To realize that future, it will take decisive leadership and the ability to work with all parts of the community and region.
As a judge, I have stood up for the rights of the average Clevelander and brought national attention to the astronomical fees for credit card debt that nag middle-and low-income consumers. I have tackled tough community problems, such as motivating high school students through a mock trial program, and as a mental health advocate. I was also District Director for Congressman Eric D. Fingerhut, helping seniors, veterans, homeowners and others to find solutions for problems in areas such as employment, health care and housing.
While I am proud of those accomplishments, I am equally proud of my family - my wife, Monica, and our three sons and daughter. My father, who is no longer with us, was a railroad worker who with my mother sent two sons to college. I am fortunate that as a public servant I am able to give back some of what this country and this city have provided to them and to me.
I am taking my commitment to be your Mayor one step further. As a mayoral candidate, I will resign my position as judge. I am willing to give up that office, win or lose, because I feel Cleveland needs the vigorous leadership I can provide. Clearly, the old ways of running our city are not working.
It is time for a change, time for fresh ideas and time for new directions. Please join me in my commitment and choose me as your next Mayor. Make Cleveland work again.
For a new and better Cleveland,
Robert Triozzi
