Schwarzenegger told the press after the Special Election that he doesn’t fire people.
I predict some heads will roll soon. Schwarzenegger will just have someone else do the dirty work for him.

May Need To Invade Iraq Again
The news out of Iraq continues to get worse (despite Bush Jr.’s happy face regarding Iraq). The New York Times on Tuesday had a lengthy article on the new Iraq government with military and police hit squads roaming the streets killing Sunni civilians.
Hundreds of Sunnis are being found in ditches and fields with bullet holes in their heads.
One of the post WMD’s arguments Bush Jr. has had for justifying the invasion of Iraq was that Saddam had hit squads killing innocent people. Now Bush Jr. is in charge and it’s his Iraqi Army that is the new hit squad in town.
Does this mean Bush Jr. will have to invade Iraq again?

Arnold’s 99 Percent Negative Rating
Zogby just published an interesting poll of California voters, post-Special Election.
Dislike of Schwarzenegger may have been a key factor in the defeat of his four propositions.
Of those who voted against all four – 99 percent rate Schwarzenegger’s job performance negatively.
Those who voted for all four – 80 percent rated him favorably.
49 percent of the measures’ supporters and 44 percent of the opponents indicated that Schwarzenegger’s support for the measures was "very important" in determining their vote.
20 percent of the voters voted for all four, while 28 percent voted against all four.
52 percent of the electorate split their votes on the four propositions.

Powell Chief of Staff Blasts Bush Jr.
Colin Powell’s former Chief of Staff, Lawrence Wilkerson told AP that Bush Jr. was "too aloof, too distant from the details" of postwar planning in Iraq.
And Wilkerson said either Cheney believed that Iraq was a pressing problem or "otherwise I have to declare him a moron, an idiot or a nefarious bastard."
I think it’s the latter.
Well now we know what Colin Powell really thinks of Bush Jr. and Cheney.

Another Week, Another Bush Jr. Republican Either Convicted, Indicted Or Under Investigation
The Duke ducks out!
"Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham resigned Monday after admitting he took $2.4 million [in bribes] as part of guilty pleas in a case that grew from an investigation into the sale of his home to a wide-ranging conspiracy involving payments in cash, vacations and antiques. …Authorities said Cunningham steered defense contracts worth tens of millions of dollars to the people who bribed him."
Here’s what some of his Republican colleagues have had to say about the man:
Tom DeLay
"Duke Cunningham is a hero. He is an honorable man of high integrity." (The Hill 6/15/05)
Rep. Duncan Hunter
"Duke Cunningham would die before he'd do anything dishonest." (Los Angeles Times 6/16/05)
Rep. Darrell Issa
"When this is all over, I think the final story will be exactly what Duke says: He made an error in judgment and showed naiveté in real estate, but he's done nothing wrong and has always put America first in everything he's done." (Los Angeles Times 6/24/05)
And this is what the "Duke-stir" said when the charges first surfaced:
"All I do is support good programs that are recommended to me by the military," says Cunningham. "I haven't done anything wrong." (San Diego Union-Tribune 6/14/05)
"I am proud of my 35 years of public service in both the U.S. Navy and the House of Representatives and can assure my constituents that this was an aboveboard transaction." (Roll Call 6/14/05)
In February, the "Duke-stir" will be sentenced. He is facing up to ten years in the slammer.
In 1974 with the Watergate scandal, the Republicans lost a lot of seats – 2006 may be the same for the Schwarzenegger/Bush Jr. Republicans.

Occasionally some good news comes out of the constant conflicts in the Middle East.

Gulf States Struggling
Bush Jr. is so tied up with his Iraq mess, the corruption all around the Republican Party and his inability to focus, that his team has dropped the ball and the Gulf States are still suffering.
Three months after Katrina hit, more and more stories are coming out that people are being evicted from their FEMA hotel rooms or their own homes and the infrastructure is seeing little work done. (Time, November 28, 2005 edition)
I guess Bush Jr. doesn’t plan on doing any more photo ops there.

A Day, A Month, A Year Of Thanks
Children across the country have been studying about the history of Thanksgiving, about how the pilgrims and the Native Americans sat down to eat together for that fateful meal in 1621. They also learn about the rich Native American culture and the sad treatment they endured from our government, how families were broken up, Treaties were made, then not followed, and how whole tribes were displaced from their land. It’s probably one of the first lesson kids will (hopefully) learn that sometimes government does not do what is best for people.
But in addition to the historical lessons, teachers and principals take this time to talk to kids about being thankful for family, for living in a free country, and for the many blessings they have in their lives. These important role models for our youth also add the ideals and principles of giving, sharing and lending a helping hand to those in need.
It’s an important lesson for kids to learn – and an important principle for everyone to carry on all year round.
We’ve seen a lot of that this past year – neighbors reaching out across the miles lending a hand to those affected by the many natural disasters which have devastated the lives of millions of people.
Often played out in real time in the media, these disasters, and the rescue and relocation effort also shined a spotlight on how the Bush Jr. administration really feels about people who need a helping hand and it wasn’t a flattering light -- after all, actions speak louder than words.
But along with this high profile indictment of the Bush Jr. presidency over the treatment of the disadvantaged and displaced, there are many other quiet, untold stories which demonstrate the same sort of negligent and dismissive attitude toward the poor, as well as the middle class.
In the last five years under Bush Jr., the number of people in this country who don’t have enough money to consistently put food on their table has grown by seven million people, yet Republicans continue to cut funding for food assistance to America’s poor children, and any Democratic steps to raise the minimum wage is met with total disdain.
When so many families are dealing with stagnant earnings, loss of health care, higher gasoline and heating prices, skyrocketing housing costs, MORE is needed from our government and private agencies to make sure all Americans have a good standard of living.
Huge thanks must also go out to all the individual Americans and charities and religious organizations that continue to help others less fortunate.
Happy Thanksgiving to all -- and remember to think of our troops.

California Voter Turnout Now Over 48 Percent
Schwarzenegger and other California Republicans were bragging that Republicans would vote in the special election and Democrats would stay home. Turned out the reverse -- as I said before the election, Democrats and Independents were angry with the Republicans and were looking for an opportunity to send a message.
And Republicans, who were disappointed with their corrupt leaders, stayed home.
The California turnout is now over 48 percent with ballots still to be counted.

9/11 Commission Gives Another Failing Grade to Bush Jr.
John Lehman, a Republican and the Navy Secretary for President Reagan, also served as a member of the 9/11 Commission.
In a recent commentary Lehman wrote for the Washington Post, he leveled these accusations against Bush Jr. -
"Since 9/11 there’s been no real action to fix our government’s most glaring failure: the dysfunctional intelligence bureaucracies whose incompetence exposed us to surprise attack. Not a single person has been disciplined, and most have been promoted."
I guess Lehman will be the next American Bush Jr. and Halliburton’s Cheney will attack for "undermining" our troops.

President John F. Kennedy
Forty-two years ago, on November 22, 1963, President John Kennedy was taken from us.
A WWII combat veteran (PT 109), Kennedy understood the Cold War threat. However, unlike Bush Jr., Kennedy believed in the "stick and carrot" approach to diplomacy. Kennedy created the Peace Corps (for Americans to help so many in the Third World) and the Green Berets.
I doubt if Bush Jr. has read much about President Kennedy and his accomplishments.

Halliburton’s Cheney immediately attacked Congressman John Murtha (37 years in the Marines, including Vietnam) but Murtha had the appropriate response for Cheney:

Schwarzenegger & DVD's
I guess the Chinese Communist government officials were not exactly shaking when Schwarzenegger and his second favorite president (Nixon is his first), Bush Jr. were in "town" complaining about their DVD piracy.
Both Republicans failed to get any crackdown on the theft of American movies.
The only crackdown we read about was American reporters being told all their emails would be monitored. Additionally, one reporter was offered for a pirated DVD for sale on the streets.
The Chinese government didn’t need fortune cookies to read the election results of Schwarzenegger and the dismal poll numbers of his good friend Bush Jr. to conclude they could ignore both these Republicans.

In the latest Harris national poll, Bush Jr.’s disapproval rating is now at 65 percent, which is the worst number since Nixon’s 66 percent in August of 1974.
Kind of interesting that a week after Schwarzenegger was taken down to his Bermuda shorts by the California voters that these national numbers would come out.
After all, Nixon was Schwarzenegger’s favorite president and Bush Jr. is his second favorite.

A new report out this week from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that 47 percent of young people (18-24) voted in the presidential race. This additional 11 points is a 30.5 percent increase from the 2000 rate of only 36 percent.
And the exit polls for last November showed, the 18-29 age group voted for John Kerry with 54 percent of the vote to Bush Jr.’s 45 percent.

Ken Khachigian Gives Us All Another Chuckle – Is It The Italian Shoes?
Longtime and forever-losing Republican consultant, Ken Khachigian, went on record in Dan Weintraub’s Sacramento Bee blog predicting that Schwarzenegger will be reelected in 2006.
Khachigian ran the Bruce Herschensohn campaign in 1992 against Barbara Boxer. He told everyone that Herschensohn would win. In 1994 Khachigian predicted that Michael Huffington would beat Dianne Feinstein. Then in 1996 he predicted Bob Dole would win, and in 1998 predicted Lungren would win. And back in 2000, as an advisor to John McCain, Khachigian said that McCain would beat Bush Jr. in the Republican primary in California.
Do you see a pattern here? Khachigian is a serial loser.
He buys his shoes from Italy – that’s where Schwarzenegger gets his shoes. Maybe there’s something in those Italian shoes, because they’re both on big time losing streaks.

No Pill Allowed After Being Raped
Evidently, the Bush Jr. policy for women who are raped is they can get a cup of coffee in the morning, but not the over-the-counter "morning after" pill.

Alito: I Was Lying Then
Judge Samuel Alito, who wants to be on the U.S. Supreme Court, made an interesting remark to Senator Dianne Feinstein on Tuesday.
According to an Associated Press article, Senator Feinstein asked Alito about what he meant in 1985 when he wrote "the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."
His answer to Feinstein: "I was an advocate seeking a job, it was a political job."
What exactly is Judge Alito saying here? That he lied in 1985 to get a job? More likely what he means is "I am seeking a job now, so I’ll lie now about what I meant in 1985."
Do we need a liar on the U.S. Supreme Court? Alito has told Bush Jr. that he will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. After all, he is seeking a political job.

A Day To Honor and Remember Veterans
Today we honor our men and women who have served our country in the military. Veterans Day originally began as "Armistice Day" on November 11, 1918 to commemorate the end of the first World War (the war to end all wars). In 1926 Congress made it a legal observance, and in 1954 Armistice Day was officially changed to Veterans Day to honor all who served the nation in wars or during peace time.
Veterans Day is also about acknowledging the enormous struggles our veterans endured and the sacrifices they made serving in the military. It’s something the average citizen doesn’t always comprehend. And, sadly, it’s something that our Republican president and his administration would simply prefer to not think about.
There are 25 million veterans today, with the WWII generation increasingly moving onto their next "assignment."
Bush Jr. brought our country to war in Iraq without a plan and put our troops in peril by not supplying them with the proper protective equipment. And to add insult to injury, he and the Republicans in Congress continue their assault on the military and our veterans by not providing enough funding for the care and support they need when they return home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Democrats have always stood up for those people who are most greatly in need – and we pledge to do no less to make sure that our veterans know they have the thanks of a grateful nation, and the care, assistance and support they need when they find their way home.

Arnold’s Short Stack at the Cozy Diner
Schwarzenegger came to the Cozy Diner in Chico on Monday morning.
About 400 nurses, teachers, firefighters and Democratic activists were there to "boo" him.
I happened to be having breakfast at the diner and I noticed as regular Chicoans left a table, the Schwarzenegger advance people would put three to four of their activists in a booth and stick an Arnold sticker on their jacket.
Wasn’t it John McCain who told Arnold a few weeks ago – "your town hall meetings stuffed with your own people are not credible"? Well, I’m sure John McCain would agree with me that "dropping by" a restaurant set up in advance with your own activists is also not credible.
I had a seat at the counter and the Schwarzenegger people asked me to leave right in the middle of my breakfast, but I wouldn't give up my seat.
As Schwarzenegger circulated around, stopping only at the "safe" booths (i.e. Arnold stickers in plain view) one teacher said "Prop 74 is an attack on teachers," and Schwarzenegger had two of his people grab the teacher and forcefully walk him outside.
So much for the First Amendment.
I guess Schwarzenegger doesn’t like to see (and hear) from anyone who opposes him.

On Thursday, Bush Jr. flies to Argentina and Brazil for the "Fourth Summit of the Americas," and polls there show Bush Jr. to be the most unpopular American president ever. Even soccer idol Diego Maradona will be there to demonstrate against Bush Jr.

Way to Go Senate Democrats
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid made the motion calling for a closed door session and it was immediately seconded. The Senate went into a closed session to confront the Republicans for their conspiracy with Bush Jr. to cover up all the “sexing up” of intelligence data leading to the invasion of Iraq.
Republican Senator Bill Frist cried like a little boy, complaining that Senator Reid didn’t tell him beforehand about the motion. Too bad Billy – you have been a disgrace.
Give’ em hell, Harry!

October – Another Deadly Month
While Bush Jr. was spending time on defending Scooter’s five-count indictment, even going so far as to praise him, American troops continue to die at an alarming rate.
October saw 93 Americans get sent home in a coffin.
To put this whole Iraq quagmire into perspective, from D-Day (June 6, 1944) until Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945, it was just eleven months.
Meanwhile, Bush’s folly drags on and on, with no end in sight.

White House Scheduling Problems
Rumsfeld may be called as a character witness by Saddam Hussein in his trial for killing 148 people in 1982. Rumsfeld spent 90 minutes with Saddam in 1983 in Baghdad to help set up arm shipments to Saddam.
And Cheney could be called as a character witness for his ex-chief of staff, Scooter Libby.
And both Cheney and Rumsfeld could be called as character witnesses for Tom DeLay in his trial in Texas.

Now, It's Bribes
Everyone knows Bush Jr. had no plan going into Iraq, nor enough equipment for our troops – many of whom paid with their lives.
Now federal officials are investigating people in the Bush Jr. administration for taking bribes to accept inferior equipment for our Special Forces.
Is there no end to the Republican corruption?

Bush Jr. – One Woman Enough
With the nomination of Samuel Alito for the U.S. Supreme Court, Bush Jr. makes it official: one woman (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a President Clinton appointee) out of nine Supreme Court Justices is enough.
And if confirmed, Alito will see that Roe v. Wade is officially reversed.
But that’s the Republican agenda.

How Do You Say It In Italian?
After praising Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi for the last two years for his support of the Iraq War, Bush Jr. was broadsided over the weekend by the same Italian Prime Minister now saying he lobbied Bush Jr. NOT to invade Iraq.
Did anyone hear Bush Jr. say in Italian – that SOB!
