2,000 Dead in Iraq and Big Oil Making Big Money
I wonder how many oil company CEO’s have children in the military in Iraq? I would guess about zero.
Why do people get outraged (and we should) about the convenience stores that double the cost of bottled water when a natural disaster hits, but when big oil, like Exxon, makes $10 billion in profits in one quarter (or $111 million per day) from gouging U.S. consumers, there is hardly a noise.
Wouldn’t it be great for America if the oil companies were patriotic and gave most of that money to help the war on terrorism effort or to help veterans? Don’t count on it!
After all, we’re talking about oil in the Mideast, so CEO’s, get your family members in the military so they can do a couple tours in Iraq in some Humvees without armor.

Scowcroft To Bush Jr. – It’s Not Working
In the October 31 edition of The New Yorker, Bush Sr.’s former National Security advisor, Brent Scowcroft, says Bush Jr.’s actions in Iraq "feeds terrorism."
Bush Jr., Cheney, Rove and Scooter (was he handcuffed?) never realized or accepted that, and have spent a lot of time attacking patriotic Americans and committing criminal acts to cover up their incompetence and now there are five indictments.

“Scooter” Indicted
How ironic to see "Scooter" Libby, Halliburton’s Cheney’s Chief of Staff on crutches the past few days.
Now that the indictments are official and if Scooter is convicted of this treasonous behavior, he should get the maximum of 30 years. America needs to send a strong message to the Bush Jr. people about criminal behavior in the White House.
What worries me even more is that Bush Jr. told the American people over a year ago he would get to the truth about "CIA-Gate" from his staff.
If Bush allegedly couldn’t get the facts out of his own people, that’s just further proof why Bush Jr. is in over his head in Iraq and the war on terrorism.

New Poll Numbers Out – More Bad News For The Bush Jr./Schwarzenegger Propositions
Friday’s California newspapers have the latest PPIC (Public Policy Institute of California) poll out "... greater voter attention does not translate into increased support for specific ballot measures or for the man who called the election in the place," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, said pollster Mark Baldassare.
In fact, Schwarzenegger’s propositions are in worse shape than previously and not one is in the lead.
The Paycheck Deception one, Proposition 75, was leading in September 55 percent to 32 percent (Field 9/5/05) but in this PPIC poll it is now at 46 percent vs. 46 percent among all likely voters.
And Schwarzenegger’s job rating is at 57 percent disapproval and his political twin Bush Jr. now has a 63 percent job disapproval rating.
This act isn’t flying and the voters are anxiously waiting to vote No on Propositions 73-78 on November 8th.

Florida – Stand in Line
Republican Governor Jeb Bush had about eight day’s warning about Hurricane Wilma and still people were forced to stand in line eight or more hours for water after Wilma went through.
In 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida, FEMA had a dismal response and many people suffered. A guy named Bush Sr. was President.
Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf States and the whole world knows Bush Jr. was a disaster in his response.
Maybe it runs in the Bush family – just a bunch of millionaires who can’t deal with everyday problems.

Wal-Mart – "The Company Town"
I’m sure Wal-Mart didn’t want their internal memo leaked (hell, even CIA secrets get out – any indictments yet?) where they discuss plans to cut employee benefits.
Let’s see – the biggest corporation in the world with the biggest profits, with a history of forcing employees to work off the clock, and they have a secret plan to cut benefits of their employees – actually don’t they refer to them as their "Associates"? Wal-Mart is concerned that employees with seven years seniority earn more than one year employees and are not any more productive. So much for Wal-Mart’s loyalty to their "Associates."
The memo goes on to stress that Wal-Mart should hire more "healthy" workers. So much for the disability laws to protect those with disabilities or older people who may face employment discrimination.
I guess that’s why Wal-Mart is backing Schwarzenegger with big checks for his flawed propositions – they think alike. Schwarzenegger has vetoed the Democratic legislation to raise the minimum wage, not once, but twice and that makes Wal-Mart happy.

Dies On His Third Tour
As bad as the situations were in Vietnam, the average trooper would not have been forced to serve three tours in a few years. But that’s what Bush Jr. is doing in his cover-up of having no plans going into Iraq.
Sgt. Anthony Jones got back from his second tour of Iraq and went immediately to the hospital to be with his wife who a few hours earlier had given birth to their second son.
A few weeks later, Bush Jr. sent Sgt. Jones back for a third tour and in June he was killed by a roadside bomb. Why don’t Bush Jr.’s daughters and Karl Rove’s son join and serve at least one tour in Iraq?

Goodbye Rosa
Last November when I was in Memphis, Tennessee, I visited the Civil Rights Museum. I walked through an old city bus from Montgomery, Alabama where Rosa Parks refused in 1955 to give up her seat to a white man. The actual bus Rosa was on is now in Detroit.
Where I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, not Philadelphia, Mississippi or Montgomery, a man was taught to give up his bus seat to a woman but in the South, white males asked women to give up their seats for them.
An interesting fact I found out last November in Memphis was that if two African-Americans were sitting and one white person needed a seat, both African-Americans were told to get up and stand so the white person could sit down and have an empty seat next to them. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and that helped touch off the Civil Rights movement.
The California Democratic Party in the 1990’s honored Rosa Parks at our State Convention (something the California Republican Party would never do) and I had the opportunity to meet her and that was a pleasure.
Sadly Rosa Parks died this week at the age of 92 in her adopted city of Detroit. I‘m sure in heaven there are plenty of people offering to give up their seats for Rosa.
And that white man who demanded that Rosa Parks give up her seat for him, my guess is they had a seat for him in hell.

Schwarzenegger’s Proposition 73 Must Be Defeated
He went to Ohio last fall to help give Bush Jr. a second term – that is a fact!
Bush Jr. has said numerous times he wants a Constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v. Wade – that is a fact!
Bush Jr. nominated John Roberts (now Chief Justice John Roberts) and Harriet Miers, so the new majority on the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade – that’s a fact!
Bush Jr. and Schwarzenegger support Proposition 73 – a proposition that would use government to force a family be notified if a 17-year old female seeks an abortion – that’s also a fact!
But read the small print in Proposition 73 and there it is -- it would add to the California’s Constitution the words "unborn child, a child conceived but not born."
The Bush Jr. agenda is clear – once the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, their anti-choice groups can go to court and have abortion outlawed in California using the new language in the State’s Constitution from Prop 73.

Was It Bird Flu or Just Chicken?
On Monday night, Schwarzenegger appeared at an Election Forum on the Propositions, hosted by KTVU and the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek, California.
Schwarzenegger was asked a month ago by the hosts to debate those on the "No" side of the propositions: the nurses, teachers and firefighters.
Schwarzenegger refused – he said he would only come if he could do it by himself. Maybe, as many in Hollywood have said about Schwarzenegger, deep down he’s a chicken – the rest is just acting.

Schwarzenegger Going to China
The Los Angeles Times had a front page story (Monday) on Schwarzenegger’s trip to China in November.
Evidently, Schwarzenegger is shaking down big corporations who have business with the state for big checks (and without the approval of their stockholders) to pay for Arnie to be wined and dined in China.
Schwarzenegger promised in the recall that he would release all records relating to being governor, including his schedule and emails.
Another Broken Promise – the Los Angeles Times had to do the work to find out which corporations, like Chevron, have contributed to Arnold’s travel fund.
Apparently, the shakedown letters and calls to corporations were going on in September as Schwarzenegger was “reviewing” which bills to sign or veto.

What Happened To Schwarzenegger’s Love?
Last week, as Bush Jr. was getting ready to fly to California for another million dollar fundraiser for the Republican National Committee, he got a "Dear John" letter faxed to him.
It was from Schwarzenegger, who told him he no longer loved him and did not want Bush Jr. to come to California.
Schwarzenegger complained that he’s in the fight of his life with his Propositions on the November 8 Special Election (Californians will reject them) and he was having a hard time fundraising; hundreds of nurses, teachers, firefighters, Democrats and others were showing up to his events yelling, "Shame on You," and you, Mr. Selfish, are coming into California to raise and take a million dollars out of California – and after all I did for you last fall by going to Ohio to campaign for you to get you a second term.
Then Schwarzenegger had a GOP operative say this to the press:
"I don't expect Gov. Schwarzenegger to be hanging out with George Bush in California. We're facing some very serious issues in the state -- and unless the president of the United States is coming to town to hand over federal money to the governor to help us solve our problems, I don't see why the governor would allow himself to be distracted with the president's fundraising trip."
Bush Jr. must have been shocked, that as he’s facing his top staff being indicted and handcuffed along with Tom DeLay and Bill Frist, Schwarzenegger would treat him this way.
It has always been about Schwarzenegger, and Bush, like hundreds of others, now realizes Schwarzenegger was only using Bush and was not a real friend in a time of crisis.
It has been fun to watch the Republicans hanging out their dirty laundry. It reminds me of the final months of the Nixon (Schwarzenegger’s favorite president) administration with people turning on each other.

On Wednesday, Schwarzenegger endorsed Issue 4 in Ohio saying California and Ohio need to pass their redistricting measures to take it out of the hands of politicians.
Okay Arnie – will you now go to Texas to take congressional redistricting out of the hands of your friend, Tom DeLay? I wonder if it was Arnie who told DeLay to smile for his mug shot?
The latest CNN poll has DeLay with only 18 percent favorable vs. 45 percent unfavorable.

Ready For Your Close-up, Mr. DeLay?
DeLay took time out from his busy schedule and stopped by the Harris County, Texas sheriff’s office for some shots and prints.
According to the AP, "DeLay, accompanied by his attorney, Dick DeGuerin, showed up about 12:15 p.m. [Texas time], appeared before a judge and was gone in less than 30 minutes."
Apparently, he was also accompanied by his hair and make-up team, as well as a lighting specialist – all part of DeLay’s defense strategy to ensure his photo conveys just the right amount of "innocent," don’t give a crap smirkiness.
Somehow DeLay kept the prison number out of the mug shot.

One in Four Iraq Vets Ailing on Return
More than one in four 4 U.S. troops coming home from the Iraq War have health problems that require medical or mental treatment, according to the Pentagon’s first detailed report on the troops returning from Iraq.
Since the war began, about 28 percent of Iraq veterans – about 50,000 service members this year alone – returned with problems ranging from lingering battle wounds to toothaches, from suicidal thoughts to strained marriages.
Of service members returning from the Iraq war this year, 47 percent saw someone wounded or killed, or saw a dead body; 14 percent had an experience that left them easily startled; six percent wanted help for stress, alcohol or family problems; two percent had thoughts of hurting someone or losing control; and one percent had thoughts that they might be better off dead or could hurt themselves.
Republicans, led by Bush Jr. not only shortchanged our troops going into Iraq, but have pushed for cuts to veterans (health care, etc.) when they return.

Once again U.S. planes drop bombs in Iraq, announce they killed 70 insurgents (even though we don’t do body counts), then we see on TV children being buried with local civilians outraged, and the Bush Jr. people say they will investigate the bombing.
And that’s the last the American media will ever ask about it.

Ballot Stuffing in Iraq
How stupid can Bush Jr. be? In some provinces in Iraq more ballots were cast than there were registered voters.
And 99 percent of the votes in some of those over-balloted provinces were "yes" votes.
Did Bush Jr. think no one would notice? Did the CIA have overzealous staff who got carried away?
Meanwhile Diebold announced that as soon as the ballot investigations are completed, they’ll take their equipment out of Iraq and bring it back to Florida and Ohio where they belong. (Actually Diebold didn’t announce that publicly, but it sounds about right.)

Schwarzenegger’s Elitist Staff
Republican and former Schwarzenegger Finance Director, Tom Campbell, is now out on the campaign trail for Arnie’s vindictive propositions. Campbell recently told the San Francisco Commonwealth Club that California teachers have an average salary of $56,000 which he stated is the highest in the country – a complete lie!
The latest analysis by the American Federation of Teachers concludes that California teachers’ salaries, adjusted for the cost of living, is actually 11th in the nation.
Campbell also stated that teachers only work for 180 days – another lie – and what an elitist bum Campbell is for that attack.
Teachers work nights, weekends and many days in the summer, either to help their kids or to advance their own learning.
Republicans like Campbell and Schwarzenegger, who live high on the hog, just can’t stop attacking public employees.

As one who served in the U.S. Army (and in Vietnam), you learn quickly to respond to someone yelling ATTENTION! when an officer is coming into the barracks.
Last Thursday, I felt sorry for those officers in Iraq who were "selected" (like the firefighters with Schwarzenegger – ordered to stand with him) to do a video conference with Bush Jr. – their Commander-in-Chief. Schwarzenegger: Don’t Count All The Votes
Last year Democrat Donna Frye got the most votes in the San Diego mayoral race, even though she was a write-in candidate.
The Republicans used an old state law and court decisions to knock off 5,000 votes because the voters didn’t check off the little "write-in" box correctly.
These 5,000 American citizens wrote-in the name of Donna Frye for mayor but their votes were not counted.
So a legislative bill was sent to Schwarzenegger’s desk to make sure all the write-in voters in future elections would be counted.
Republicans say they agree with Democrats, that all the votes should be counted, but in fact they don’t really want all the votes counted.
Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill (SB 1050).
I was in Florida for the 2000 presidential election recount and I saw ballot after ballot where voters didn’t do exactly as the card with six-point print stated, and their vote was rejected.
An example: someone voted for Al Gore then checked off the write-in bubble and wrote-in Al Gore’s name. The machine recorded it as invalid but as we went through the ballots it would be ruled valid – common sense!
Republicans don’t want all the Democratic ballots counted – they stole the White House with a 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court vote and they stole the San Diego’s mayor’s office. Incidentally, Dick Murphy, the Republican who was declared the winner, resigned a few months ago, in a scandal.
City Councilwoman Donna Frye is running again for mayor in San Diego on November 8th, which is the same day we must defeat Schwarzenegger’s Propositions 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, and 78.

Constitution Election This Saturday
This Saturday, a constitution with many faults will be voted on in Iraq.
Regardless of the outcome of the votes -- if two thirds (not a simple majority) vote no in three provinces, the constitution is defeated -- it will not solve much, despite a "happy face" from Bush Jr.
The constitutional vote is just a political face-saving pushed by Bush Jr. so he can say progress is being made (i.e. like his "Mission Accomplished").

McCain to Vietnamese Allies – Sorry
During the American War in Vietnam the U.S. military and CIA recruited thousands of indigenous people throughout Indochina, like the Montaguards in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, to participate in the war.
In return, the U.S. promised protection, and later, a life in America.
For over three decades tens of thousands of Southeast Asians from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos have legally emigrated to the U.S. A month ago, another 20,000 finally entered the U.S., after decades of living in refugee camps.
Many of them are now in their 70’s and have few years left.
And what did Republican John McCain say in Oakland, California on Monday while campaigning with and for Schwarzenegger?
McCain wants to change U.S. law to force everyone to learn English, even these now elderly Vietnamese who fought with the U.S. military. The real McCain – a cruel and partisan Republican.

General Says Allies Will Prevail
In a speech to Congress the General stated that the allies would prevail, and praised the performance of American troops.
Later in an appearance before the National Press Club, the General offered the prospect of phasing down the American commitment while turning over more of the burden to local troops.
The general said it might be possible to phase down the U.S. troop levels in two years hence.
A few months after those comments by General Westmoreland in 1967, the Tet Offensive hit (January 30, 1968) and two thousand American troops were killed in February 1968 alone.
The U.S. military finally left in 1973, leaving embassy guards and some advisors, but they grabbed the last helicopters out on May 1, 1975 as the North Vietnamese tanks drove into Saigon.
It was President Johnson who brought General Westmoreland back to the U.S. to give these pep talks.
Maybe Bush Jr. does read a book or two after all. ("The 25 Year War" by General Bruce Palmer, Jr., page 75)

Social Security was created, segregation ended, unemployment insurance was created, environmental protections were passed, civil rights, women’s rights, rights for the disabled, gay rights -- and I believe National Review was nowhere on the right side of these issues, and that’s a fact.

Schwarzenegger Orders Firefighters to Stand With Him
For two years, Schwarzenegger has not stood up for firefighters – in fact Schwarzenegger wanted to redo their pension and even had a proposition circulating that would eliminate pensions for people whose spouses died in the line of duty. When exposed in the press, Schwarzenegger withdrew the proposition.
But a week ago, with fires raging in Southern California, Schwarzenegger’s PR people decided he had to go and thank the firefighters.
When they heard Schwarzenegger was coming, the firefighters put "No on Proposition 75" (Paycheck Deception) signs on their cars. When they were asked to stand with Schwarzenegger, they refused.
So when Gov. Schwarzenegger ordered fire officials to order the firefighters (many exhausted) to stand next to Schwarzenegger, these firefighters were mad.
When the press found out about the hostility of the firefighters to Schwarzenegger, they asked the governor if he ordered the firefighters to stand next to him.
Arnie answered the question by saying – "everybody is ordered to do things at one point or another. Someone was ordered to put up the podium. Someone was ordered to bring in the microphone."
So Arnie sees firefighters as no different from a podium and mike?
Schwarzenegger and Republicans in general are like the old Soviet bosses – they really resent working people being in a union.

CIA in Cover-up
Republican hack and now Bush Jr.’s CIA Director Porter Goss has ruled former CIA Director George Tenet and others will not be punished or charged for their incompetence pre 9/11.
So much for Bush Jr.’s constant "I want to get to the bottom of this mess" (9/11, Katrina, CIA leaks, and on and on), and hold people responsible.
Sure, George.

Was The Reception Bad?
Everyone knows Bush Jr. had some sort of rectangular receiver box on his back in the debates with John Kerry. Despite all the tips that Karl Rove sent Bush Jr., all the polls showed Kerry won all three debates.
At Tuesday’s news conference, a number of reporters were wondering why Bush Jr. looked and acted confused at times.
My guess - it was reception problems with his receiver. Technology doesn’t always work.

Bush Jr. and 129,000 Americans
Bush Jr. released the latest IRS data on taxpayers. The top one tenth (129,000 Americans) of the richest one percent in America saw their income grow by 9.5 percent in 2003. The bottom 99 percent of Americans had an increase of less than two percent, which was below the inflation rate of 2.3 percent in 2003.
Bush Jr.’s report went on to brag that the top one tenth of one percent had more combined income in 2003 than the poorest third of taxpayers combined.
In 1979, the poorest third had a combined income exceeding the income of the top tenth of one percent by 2.5 to 1.
As Bush Jr. himself would say – "Mission Accomplished."

French Lobbyist Has New Client
Former RNC Chair Ed Gillespie, now a lobbyist for the French firm Eurobus, handled Judge John Roberts through the U.S. Senate.
Now Eddie, whose firm is registered as a foreign government lobbyist, has a new client – Harriet Miers.
Smart move by the French lobbying operation – have Eddie line up two U.S. Supreme Court Justices who owe him some favors on the Supreme Court. The DC press corps won’t even notice the ethical and financial conflicts.

Part of the Divide
At his pitiful news conference on Tuesday, Bush Jr. was asked about the economic divide in America which was especially shown in the Katrina aftermath.
"Part of the divide occurs because some people own a home and others don’t."
That’s what Bush Jr. said - that the reason people are poor is that they don’t own a home!

He’s Still "President"
Former President Bill Clinton visited a shelter with Katrina victims in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As President, Bill Clinton made sure FEMA was the best in the world and Bill Clinton followed through with victims of national disasters.
He is still doing that.

Bush Jr. "Lowers the Bar"
With military morale so low and an incompetent Commander-in-Chief, the U.S. Army continues to miss its recruitment goals, thus putting America’s security at even greater risk. So has Bush Jr.’s daughters and Karl Rove’s son announced they will join the military? No!
Instead, Bush Jr. has decided to lower the bar to allow people formerly not qualified to join the Army. Those who score at the bottom of the aptitude tests had been limited to be only two percent of the total recruitment class.
Bush Jr. is now doubling it to be four percent.
We need a new president.

Harriet
Has Bush Jr. nominated a pro-choice Justice to the Supreme Court in Harriet Miers? Don’t bet the farm on it.

Scotland Yard Investigating Tom DeLay
The British Daily Mirror on Monday had a front page story that on one of Tom DeLay’s junkets to Britain he met with Maggie Thatcher. So Scotland Yard will be interviewing Thatcher about what she knows about any of DeLay’s criminal acts.
Meanwhile, Grand Jury #2 sent Tom DeLay Indictment #2 – this time for money laundering.

Once Again, Mixed Messages
No one can be blamed for having rubber necks from watching the Bush Jr. spin machine ambushing itself over the last several days.
The same General who testified before Congress a few months ago that there were three Iraqi battalions who could fight for themselves is now saying it has shrunk to just one, but on the Sunday TV news shows he was still spinning "things are getting better."
And one of the Generals on a Sunday show stated maybe the U.S. military troops' presence is fueling the insurgency.
The military and Colin Powell always knew that invading Iraq with a one-way ticket would be a disaster. Hey, Bush Sr. even warned his son.

Fraud in Afghanistan
It turns out all that praise Bush Jr., was giving Afghanistan for voting was premature. The election monitors are now reporting they have found significant incidents of voter fraud, ballot box stuffers and phony precinct workers.
I guess along with opium, voting procedures went up in smoke.

Schwarzenegger To Household Help -- No Raise
I guess Schwarzenegger thinks his household help (bathroom cleanings, trash out, etc.) is paid too much at California’s minimum wage of $6.75 an hour.
Last Thursday, Schwarzenegger vetoed a Democratic bill to raise the minimum wage to $7.75 an hour, so Arnie’s help will not be getting a raise.

Bush Jr. And Treason
Months ago, Bush Jr. said he would get to the bottom of which of his staff broke U.S. law (treason) by leaking the name of a covert CIA agent.
Last Friday, New York Times reporter Judith Miller, who was released from jail the previous night, told the Federal Grand Jury the name of one of leakers – Halliburton’s Dick Cheney’s Chief of Staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
Libby and Karl Rove were the two prime suspects from day one. And Bush Jr. is still telling the American people he still hasn’t figured that out.
Iraq chaos, finding Osama bin Laden, Katrina, economic troubles, high gasoline prices, Frist, DeLay, CIA leaks, record deficits, record tax giveaways, and on and on.
Is this what Bush Jr. ran on?

National Guard Doesn’t Have The Equipment
We all know Bush Jr. sent the military into Iraq without adequate equipment, which led to unnecessary deaths and serious injuries for many.
Lt. General (3 stars) Steven Blum, the head of the National Guard, which has a high percentage of its troops over in Iraq, has stated the Guard is spread so thin that they lack the equipment to deal with disasters in America like Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Another Bush Jr. disaster!
