MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Montana became the 11th state where voters passed an initiative to allow doctors to prescribe marijuana for patients with serious pain – many of whom have had no relief from other drugs.

California voters passed a similar measure in 1996 with almost 56 percent.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court took on the case to decide if a dying person has a legal right to get a prescription from their doctor for medical marijuana.

The Republicans, led by Bush Jr., are seeking a U.S. Supreme Court decision against the 11 states.

How ironic that the Bush Jr. twins have gotten plenty of publicity about their pot parties (without a doctor’s prescription), but now their dad wants to put dying patients in jail.

How cruel can Bush Jr. be?

MORE OUTSOURCING BY BUSH JR.

Bush Jr. announced his new Secretary of Commerce, the CEO of the Kellogg’s cereal company, Carlos Gutierrez, to help create jobs in America.

How ironic – last Dec. 18 Gutierrez proudly put out in a Kellogg’s press release that he was saving money by closing a plant in Australia and you guessed it, outsourcing a U.S. repackaging operation.

How many jobs will be lost in the second term of Bush Jr.?

IRAN AND IRAQ

While Bush Jr. has 140,000 American troops tied down in Iraq (more going soon), Iran, with the real potential for weapons of mass destruction–nuclear– is whipsawing the international community on what their plans are because with the Iraq quagmire, Bush Jr. is impotent.

It was Iran that set up fake Iraq defectors with Saddam stories of having WMDs that Bush Jr. cited as a reason to invade Iraq (yes, not Iran) and now Iran with nuclear potential is thumbing their noses at Bush Jr.

SWISS VOTERS JOIN CALIFORNIA

Over the weekend, Swiss voters joined California in supporting Stem Cell research. The vote was over 66 percent to allow research of human embryos.

The British government has already moved forward on this important medical research.

So, while California, Britain and now Switzerland see promising hope for some cures for some diseases, Bush Jr. and the Republican Party are still in the past.

As cures are found, I’m sure Republicans – standing on principle -- will not ask their doctor for any treatment derived from Stem Cell research if they had originally opposed such research.

PAKISTAN RETREATS

Osama bin Laden still has not been found, despite having surfaced in studios to record videos.

Meanwhile Pakistan, which provided nuclear expertise to Iran and others, is now withdrawing thousands of troops from the Afghanistan border.

Another sign of Bush Jr.’s failures in foreign policy and going after terrorists “wherever they are.”

U.S. HOPES FOR ALLAWI ARE DWINDLING

It’s not getting much press coverage, but Bush Jr. is more and more worried that his hand picked Iraqi leader, Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, can retain power in the January 30th election.

Bush Jr. has put Allawi out front on so many issues and attacks on insurgents (that lead to killing of women and children) that Allawi is losing favor with Iraqis.

Will the elections (if actually held on January 30th) produce Bush Jr.’s “friendly” allies or Iran operatives?

Meanwhile, November now has more U.S. troops killed than October, which had more than September, which had … well, you get the picture.

So far in November, 69 Marines have been killed in Iraq – that is the most Marines killed in a single month since October 1983 in Lebanon where President Reagan had sent them (241 killed by a suicide driver).

JACK IN THE BOX AND HEALTH CARE

Jack in the Box, after serving billions of hamburgers, has decided to start offering some health care benefits to its hourly employees.

Let’s hope the benefits are substantive, and that other businesses will follow suit.

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart has decided it will now allow unions for their workers – in China! It will be called union outsourcing.

THANKSGIVING – LET’S REMEMBER

As Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, it is a time to remember what happened to Native Americans after they set the tables for some European visitors, four hundred years ago.

We should thank (and pray for) all those Americans serving abroad in difficult situations. And let’s hope a year from now there is stability in Iraq and Afghanistan (which with Bush Jr.’s policies is doubtful), and a settlement between Israel and the Palestinians.

MORE BUSH JR. SPIN IS UNSPINNING

Bush Jr. and his team said before the election that additional American troops would not be going to Iraq above the 138,000 level now. Kerry and other Democrats said Bush Jr. had a secret plan to increase the level after the election.

Now the Bush Jr. spin is “maybe” (that means yes) another 5,000-7,000 more American troops to help with the election on January 30th. Meanwhile Hungary is pulling all its troops out by New Year’s – a few months early.

Let’s see, back-door drafts; recalling guys in their 40s; extended tours; one weekend a month soldiers now every weekend a year and maybe more troops –the spin goes on.

But don’t worry, Bush Jr. will tell the American people everything is "going well."

And tragically, millions will believe him.

CHILE STATE DINNER CANCELLED

Bush Jr. went to Chile over the weekend for a big American Asian Summit. Probably had been scheduled for months. In the end, Bush Jr. and his team were so confused about security details at the big State dinner, that Bush Jr. ended up embarrassing the host government of Chile which cancelled the State dinner.

How can Bush Jr. lead the world in fighting terrorism when he messes up a State dinner?

America and the world will never know what would have happened if President Kennedy served a second term. Would 500,000 plus American troops have gone to Vietnam?

Would Nixon have been elected in 1968? The questions are endless.

But on November 22, 1963 (41 years ago) John Kennedy’s life ended. He will always be missed. He was one of the best.

“MORAL” REPUBLICANS VOTE FOR CORRUPT TOM DELAY

The same Republicans who ran on “morals” in the election showed their true colors on Wednesday.

Tom DeLay, the Republican Majority Leader that even some of his supporters won’t deny is corrupt, got his Republican colleagues to change the rules.

The Republican House Rules require any leader who is indicted to give up his/her House Leadership position.

Three of DeLay’s staff members have already been indicted for money corruption.

So the Republicans did what is “best” for America. They voted to eliminate the rule so even an indicted Tom DeLay could remain Majority Leader.

NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR NOT SO BRIGHT

The same National Security Team that was asleep at the wheel pre-9/11 has now shifted chairs.

Condoleezza Rice goes to Secretary of State to replace Colin Powell. Even I feel bad about how the Bush Jr. people are treating Powell in the press (irrelevant, a failure, and good riddens). Rice’s deputy, Stephen Hadley, will replace Rice. Hadley is the one who told everyone that al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein were connected to 9/11.

I guess the way it works with Bush Jr. is if you’re Colin Powell, who warned the White House that an Iraq invasion would not work, you get pushed out. But if you were asleep pre-9/11 and have misread the situation since, you get promoted to Secretary of State and National Security Advisor. America continues not to be in good hands.

IRAQI UPRISING IS “HOME-GROWN”

Despite the Bush administration’s assertion that foreigners (Syria, Iran, etc.) make up a third of the Iraqi insurgents – that number is really only about five percent.

That’s right – this latest battle, which has resulted in 38 American troops killed and 320 wounded is the result of “a home-grown uprising dominated by Iraqis, not foreign fighters.”

BUSH JR. “MANDATE” IS SMALLEST MARGIN SINCE 1828

Contrary to the overblown Republican spin, Bush Jr. only beat Kerry by 2.9 percentage points -- 51 percent to 48.1 percent -- the smallest margin of victory for a re-elected president since 1828 (Ron Brownstein, LA Times 9/15/04).

Rather than patting themselves on the back over a “huge” victory that doesn’t exist, Bush Jr. and his supporters should admit the fact that this was a very close election, and that the country remains divided.

But how can you “unite” what you can’t admit is divided? You can’t. I guess that’s the point.

REPUBLICAN VALUES

In the Kentucky U.S. Senate race, 73 year-old Republican incumbent Senator Bunning was having a lot of problems.

As the campaign progressed, Bunning’s remarks and actions started making a lot of people in Kentucky wonder if Bunning was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or had some other mental illness.

But Republicans came to Bunning’s aid, summarized by one Republican: “We’re for the Bush agenda [i.e. deficits, the Iraq chaos, more tax cuts for the wealthy, overturning Roe v. Wade, etc.] and the only way to support the Bush agenda is to put his people in. It doesn’t make a difference if Bunning has bungled things [i.e. mental problems], which he probably has.”

Republican values are about winning public offices and it doesn’t matter if their candidate has mental problems or is leaving his third wife for yet another younger woman. When Republicans mention religion, it's just code for power.

OUTSOURCERS HAPPY

I forgot to mention an item from the November 4, 2004 New York Times.

Along with many foreign countries – Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, etc. that were hoping for a Bush Jr. win, another group broke out the champagne bottles.

“This (Bush Jr. win) is great news for the offshoring industry,” said Nandan M. Nilekani, the chief executive of a software company.

The trend toward outsourcing will now become even more inevitable, Mr. Nilekani said.

What’s this country coming to when “great economic” news is sending jobs overseas?

“I’ve done my time. I’ve got a brand new baby and a wife, and I haven’t touched the controls of an aircraft in seven years. I’m 47 years old. How could they be calling me? How could they even want me?” (Rich Howell, former Army helicopter pilot, NY Times 11/16/04)

Now that the U.S. elections are over, the Bush Jr. people are quietly talking about delaying the Iraq elections.

With the chaos and deaths rising every week, everybody knew that there would be no elections in January, other than a possible half empty one.

The American people took Bush Jr.’s word for it and when the elections are cancelled, most Americans will not remember to connect the dots to Bush Jr. lying to them.

POWELL OUT; RICE IN

No one is surprised that Colin Powell quit. The "Triangle of Anglos" (Cheney-Rumsfeld-Rove) ignored Powell’s advice and basically isolated him as Secretary of State.

Unlike the Rove Gang, Powell actively served in combat (Rove and Cheney refused to join the military), and Powell was against the Iraq war.

Down the road, Powell will make sure history records him as a loyal soldier and not a dumb and naïve Secretary of State for Bush Jr.

It was a mistake for Powell to take the Secretary of State job -- now going to Rice.

FEDERAL MARSHALS SLEEPING ON THE JOB

Didn’t Bush Jr. say in the campaign that America is more secure because he’s on the job? He talked about increasing the Department of Homeland Security budget, etc.

Well, the Office of the Inspector General just released a report on the federal air marshals.

Of 504 job applicants approved for hire, 161 had evidence of domestic abuse, drunk driving or sexual harassment.

And during a one-year period (2002-2003) 753 air marshals were cited for drinking or drugs on the job, falling asleep and having a weapon lost or stolen.

EX-CIA DIRECTOR TENET TALKING

Now that George Tenet is on the speaking circuit, he’s talking frankly. According to friends of Tenet’s and sources who have been at some of his talks, Tenet is strongly implying that he was against the Iraq War.

“I won’t say at the end of the game, when things are looking bad, that I was against it all along.” (George Tenet, NY Times 11/14/04)

“THINGS ARE GOING, I THINK, AS PLANNED”

Bush Jr.’s top military leader, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Richard Myers, said, “I think” on CBS “Early Show on Thursday.

All hell is breaking loose all over Iraq. But let’s remember that Bush Jr. has said the more violence there is in Iraq that it is a sign of success that the Coalition is winning.

No city police chief could every say that. If there was violence breaking out all over a city, the police chief would be fired.

Speaking of coalitions has anyone noticed that Bush Jr. has failed miserably again in the Fallujah operation? How many foreign counties have troops involved? That’s right – one, the U.S.

Almost two-dozen Americans have been killed and nearly 200 wounded so far in Fallujah.

TOP GOP ADVISOR PREDICTS TROUBLE AHEAD

A little-known, but key strategist for the GOP predicts the Rove/Bush Jr. campaign tactics may lead to the possible detriment of the Republican Party.

Arthur Finkelstein, a campaign operative known for vicious attacks on Democrats, did a rare interview.

According to the New York Times (11/11/04), Finkelstein spoke to an Israeli paper and predicted that the Christian right has been so strengthened that it will have the ability to pick the next Republican presidential nominee.

Finkelstein told the reporter he was troubled by the strategy of dividing the country by “values of religion and culture.”

He used New York Governor Pataki as an example of one who may have difficulty in the 2008 presidential primaries.

Of course John McCain is hoping that both Giuliani and Pataki both run – two New Yorkers in New Hampshire.

McCain will be the Republican frontrunner in New Hampshire in 2008 (he beat Bush Jr. by 18 points in 2000) because of his appeal to Independents, who can vote in either Party’s primary.

Of course after New Hampshire, the roadblock set up by the hard right Republican Party is the “Bob Jones University” Primary in South Carolina.

Only Republicans can vote in the South Carolina Primary and as McCain found out in 2000 you better be carrying a bible and a confederate flag. The Republican Party is dead set against McCain.

A reminder to all: Goldwater received 38 percent of the vote in 1964 and the pundits said that Republicans were finished. Four years later, Nixon won the presidency.

VOTING FRAUD AND IRREGULARITIES

From Florida to Ohio to California, tens of thousands - maybe millions - of Americans were denied their right to cast a vote or have their vote counted, just as it was in 2000.

The Republicans used “legal” means to phony flyers in their attempts to block Americans from voting.

In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania flyers were left at African-American households stating there were so many registered voters there would be two days of voting – Republicans on Tuesday, November 2nd and Democrats on Wednesday.

Other Democrats who registered to vote in the final weeks in several states got postcards stating that since they registered so late, their county did not have time to process their card so they would not be able to vote.

Add up the machines whose “books” were cooked and once again, the world sees what Bush Jr. is capable of.

After all, if a guy loses all three debates, even with a wireless receiver, who would be surprised that Bush Jr. would steal votes or deny the votes of minorities?

FALLUJAH IS NO BERLIN

Despite the Bush Jr. spin, Fallujah is not the “Berlin of 1945” of Iraq. The total destruction and defeat by the Nazis in Berlin meant the end of WWII in Europe.

In Iraq, Fallujah is most likely to be how Hamburger Hill was in Vietnam.

The 101st Airborne spent days getting to the top taking a couple hundred casualties but finally defeating the North Vietnamese. A few weeks later, the 101st Airborne left, and the North Vietnamese retook the mountain.

Has anyone noticed how many foreign troops Bush Jr. was able to get for the fight in Fallujah? That’s right – the only foreign troops Bush Jr. was able to get from his "coalition" were Americans.

Meanwhile the International Reserve Committee is pulling out of Iraq next month – it is too unsafe. Few organizations are left.

WIRELESS RECEIVER OR BULLETPROOF VEST?

For weeks the Bush Jr. people were spinning that the bulge in the back of Bush Jr.’s jacket at the debates was a poorly tailored suit.

Bush Jr.’s campaign manager Ken Mehlman on 'Meet the Press' even said the gentleman responsible for the suit was no longer working for the administration.

The New York Times did a story on the tailor, Georges de Paris, who resents the attacks.

Meanwhile de Paris is working on Bush Jr.’s next suit and one for Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans (who just resigned along with John Ashcroft – good riddance to both of them).

As usual, Mehlman (a good “moral” guy) was lying!

Now the new spin from the White House has a “source” at the Secret Service saying the bulge was a bulletproof vest.

I am convinced it was a wireless receiver for three reasons: suits don’t make rectangular bulges; neither do bulletproof vests and there was no sign of a vest anywhere else on his body; and the third reason – the most important one – Bush Jr. needed a wireless receiver.

SCHWARZENEGGER OFFICIAL CALLS ON BUSH JR. TO REPEAL TAX CUTS

Schwarzenegger’s chief economist at his Department of Finance has called on Bush Jr. to repeal the tax cuts for the wealthy.

“You know you’re going to be running deficits (nationally) forever unless some of these tax cuts are undone.” – Howard Roth, chief economist at Schwarzenegger’s Department of Finance (Sac Bee 11/04/04).

If Roth says this again he’ll be fired. The Republicans are intent on putting the U.S. in a financial hole so deep that a Democrat will not be able to recommend a middle class program for decades.

Bush Jr.’s present economic plan is to put the Chinese Communist banks more and more in control of the U.S. economy.

In 2000, foreigners held 31 percent of our national debt. Now Bush Jr. has 42 percent of our national debt held by foreigners and soon it will be 50 percent.

This is a big security risk both economically and militarily for Americans, but that’s the Bush Jr. plan.

IRAQI DESERTIONS CONTINUE

Rumsfeld, who never saw combat or learned a lesson from the Vietnam War or previous Wars of Folly, has dismissed the latest report of desertions.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (11/9/04) has a story of a NPR correspondent with Marines in Fallujah reporting that one Iraqi battalion of 500 men had 330 flee in the last two weeks, 250 just over the weekend.

The lesson is simple: local people tend to become allies (ever temporarily) and turn against the foreigners and other local people who are “with” the foreigners. And local people with the foreigners tend not to attack other local people. In Vietnam, much of the South Vietnam Army was always taking a walk.

CHENEY “CONFESSES”

Cheney and his company Halliburton denied (i.e. lied about) the Nigerian bribes for months.

Now, Cheney’s Halliburton has admitted (post-election) in a new regulatory filing that they “may have” paid $180 million in bribes to Nigerian officials. Yes they used the words “may have.”

Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton from 1995-2000, just when the bribes were paid out.

So he lets loose of $180 million in bribes, but now Cheney, as the sitting Vice President of the United States, says “may have.” Wouldn't it be easy to remember writing that $180 million check?

These types of bribes usually include other illegal activity, like prostitution, as well. Didn’t Cheney run on morals? He’s as corrupt as Nixon’s Agnew was, who eventually resigned.

With Bush Jr., bribes and prostitutes (remember brother Neil) are just a part of business as usual.

SHE WAS RAPED, NOW CHARGED WITH BEING AWOL

Lt. Jennifer Dyer alleged she was raped by a fellow officer at a Mississippi Army base in August. Lt. Dyer was granted only two weeks of leave and ordered back to Camp Shelby. Lt. Dyer asked the Army to be stationed at another base because she feared “her mental health would suffer,” especially with the accused rapist nearby.

The Army said no and has now charged her with being AWOL as the rape case continues in the legal system. Lt. Dyer was at Camp Shelby for additional training before going to Iraq.

SCHWARZENEGGER GOES AFTER NURSES

In a move that gained national recognition, Governor Gray Davis signed a law in 1999 that required a higher nurse to patient ratio. We all know nurses are underpaid and overworked.

Well, Republican Schwarzenegger signed an order to relax the law back to the old standard.

Instead of working to get more nurses in the field as Gov. Davis had started, Schwarzenegger has sided with the hospital administrators (making $500,000 a year) and went after the nurses. Of course Schwarzenegger, with his money and access to health care including his most likely steroid-induced heart problem, can’t comprehend nurses’ needs and tough work.

There is a pattern here with Schwarzenegger – a mean Republican, a big backer of Latino bashing Proposition 187, vetoed the minimum wage bill and now will force nurses to work longer hours.

EVANGELICAL LEADER ISSUES WARNING TO BUSH JR.

Dr. James C. Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family (Rush Limbaugh, Bob Barr, Newt Gingrich, all had three wives so that’s a lot of focusing) issued a warning to Bush Jr. That’s right – a warning!

Dobson told him (through a staffer – probably Karl Rove) that since America was “on the verge of self-destruction” as it abandoned traditional family roles (was he talking about Rush or Newt?) that “God has given us (him) a reprieve.”

Dobson is demanding a constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage, make abortion a crime and stop embryonic stem-cell research and most of all - remake the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

That’s their agenda. Not a word about raising the minimum wage or improving the economic life of the middle class or making health care more accessible and affordable.

THE GOVERNOR GOT HIS CLOCK CLEANED

“The governor got his clock cleaned by the Democrats in the legislative races losing in every district where he tried to take a seat from the majority party.” (Dan Weintraub, columnist Sacramento Bee, 11/04/04)

In other words, Schwarzenegger is a "loser."

CALIFORNIA YOUTH VOTE FOR KERRY BIG TIME

In the LA Times exit poll (11/04/04) it reports that 18-29 year-olds gave Kerry 61 percent vs. only 38 percent for Bush Jr., better than the national margin of 54 percent.

LATINOS VOTE FOR KERRY

In the same exit poll it reports Latinos in California gave Kerry 68 percent vs. only 31 percent for Bush Jr.

The same happened nationally – 67 percent for Kerry (national exit polls).

BUSH JR. VOTERS OUT OF STEP

Bush Jr. supporters in California voted against Prop 71 (Stem Cell) which passed and Prop 72 (expand healthcare) which failed with only 49 percent.

The Los Angeles Times exit poll (published 11/04/04) has the Kerry voters supporting Prop 71 by 78 percent while the Bush Jr. voters opposed it by 63 percent.

The same with Prop 72: the Kerry voters supported it by 70 percent but the Bush Jr. people opposed it by 76 percent.

Don’t Republicans have family members with health care needs?

JOHN KERRY – VERY PRESIDENTIAL

Both John Kerry and John Edwards handled their concession speeches very well – very "presidential."

But both made it clear that neither will be walking away from the fight for a "Better America."

YOUNG PEOPLE FOR KERRY

The exit polls showed that the 18-29 age group across America voted for Kerry by a 54 percent to 45 percent margin.

These millions of voters are the Democratic Party’s future. Thanks to Young Democrats and College Democrats for all your efforts.

MORAL VALUES PLAY A ROLE?

Bush Jr. and many Republicans exploit the “values” that many Americans have by citing the Bible, making reference to women being outside of the home, gay rights, etc. But in the end, these voters ultimately want political power and overwhelmingly vote Republican even if their guy is on his third wife.

In fact, what state - Bible Belt Oklahoma or California - has the higher rate of divorce per capita. That’s right, Oklahoma.

Life is full of contradictions and the Presidential election is a good example.

AMERICAN VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN! THE WRONG WAY!

While California gave Democratic U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer a 20 point victory (58 percent to 38 percent) and John Kerry a ten point margin (54 percent to 44 percent), Americans decided by a three point margin (51 percent to 48 percent) to go with the incumbent.

In the case of Bush Jr., even though he lost all three debates; even with a wireless receiver as a cheat sheet; even with gasoline at $2.50 a gallon; even with an economy that is both losing jobs and putting the American people in debt to foreign banks; even with the chaos in Iraq, the AWOL guy vs. the Vietnam veteran -- event with all this, they decided to stick with the incompetent president.

Historically no incumbent president has been defeated in the middle of a “war.” That’s why Bush Jr. kept saying “I’m in the middle of a war on terrorism.”

Iraq is now fully a Bush Jr. and Republican war – they better solve it!

NOW COLIN POWELL CALLS BUSH JR. A “LIAR”

In the newest Newsweek (11/8/04) sources say Powell has told friends that Bush Jr. is losing the war in Iraq.

On Saturday nine American Marines were killed in Iraq in one ambush. Bush Jr. has our troops in a cul-de-sac in Iraq, with no way out.

U.S. MILITARY COMMANDERS ADMIT ELECTIONS IN IRAQ IN JANUARY DUBIOUS

Military commanders, speaking off the record to the New York Times (10/31/04), have acknowledged their misgivings about Bush Jr.’s plan for elections in Iraq. Insurgencies are growing, reconstruction is at a snail’s pace and security is getting worse.

MORE EVIDENCE BUSH JR. WRONG ON STEM CELL

The latest scientific tests show the limited number of stem cells available for research under Bush Jr. are either rejected by immune systems or are too difficult to be kept alive.

Another reason California must pass Proposition 71 on Tuesday November 2.

In fact, California can do two things to advance cures for some diseases – pass Prop 71 and put Kerry over the top with our 55 Electoral Votes

THREE OUT OF FOUR NEW CALIFORNIA REGISTRATIONS REJECT SCHWARZENEGGER

Despite all the statements from Schwarzenegger and the rest of his Bush Jr. allies that Republicans were out-registering Democrats this year, it turns out to be all spin.

In fact, it has been a disaster for Schwarzenegger. Since the March 2004 Primary about 1.5 millions Californians registered to vote. Only 26% registered as Republicans (i.e. only one out of four registered with the Schwarzenegger/Bush Jr. Republican Party).

In other words, 74% of new voters registering rejected the Republican Party. Democrats beat the Republicans – 602,000 to 381,000.
